Emily uses a client-centered approach rooted in liberation and black-feminist psychology values. She believes in working from a strengths-based approach and challenging the narrative of problems from a systemic lens. She helps individuals deepen their inner awareness to become more connected with themselves, so they can in turn become more connected with the world around them. Emily uses techniques gathered from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and grounds them in mindfulness values to help guide individuals back into balance/ alignment.
Emily identifies as Afro-Indigenous and believes in incorporating people’s traditions, values, family history, culture, and spirituality/religion in sessions when they feel comfortable doing so.
Emily has trained in working with individuals with depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and concerns in life transitions surrounding parenthood. She has researched how to best support women of color who have survived interpersonal violence; she is passionate about continuing to support women identifying individuals who hold relating traumas in the therapy space. She believes in therapy being a sacred space to carry out work that is trauma-informed, culturally attuned, and unique to each individual’s needs.
